What I LOVE About Haiti

Visitors and residents share what they most love about being in Haiti...

"There are several things that I enjoy about visiting Haiti - the warmth of the people, the painting market and the classy restaurant in Patronville.

I love the friendly demeanor of the Haitian people. They put more of an emphasis on interpersonal relationships than people do in the U.S. They are friendly with a fine sense of humor, despite the difficult lives many face trying to make a living to support their families.

The painting market is a stellar experience. If you've never been, you should definitely take time to do so. There are several vendors set up in Port au Prince who paint the most beautiful canvases. These canvases depict the culture and the people in the most vibrant colors. I have purchased 2 canvases over the past few years and they are a discussion point when guests come to visit. Bartering for these canvases is half the experience. You learn so much about Haitian business practices when visiting this market and engaging the artists.

I also love La Reserve in Petionville. If you're looking for ambiance and fancy cuisine, this is the dining experience for you. It's the melding of Haitian and French cultures, as guests are quite diverse in this respect. The food is fabulous and the sparkling lights create a festive aura."
